Stump Grinding

Stumps ground flat, root flare included.

Old stumps take up space, wreck mower blades, and never fully rot away on their own. We grind them below grade so the ground is usable again — no digging, no dozer, no mess left behind.

The Process

What stump grinding actually involves

A mechanical grinder chews the stump down 4–8 inches below grade, root flare included — unlike full removal, grinding doesn't tear up the surrounding soil, sprinkler lines, or landscaping.

  1. Free estimate — from a photo or an on-site look, priced before anything starts.
  2. Site check — we flag anything nearby worth protecting: lines, hardscaping, irrigation.
  3. Grinding — the stump goes below grade, flush and walkable.
  4. Cleanup — grindings hauled off or left as mulch, your call.

FAQ

Stump grinding, answered

Do you remove the whole tree, or just the stump?
We specialize in the stump. If the tree's still standing, tell us and we'll help you sequence the work.
Will grinding damage my lawn or driveway?
We size the approach to work close to structures without unnecessary damage, and walk the site with you first.
Can I plant right on top afterward?
Usually, once the ground settles — ask about a deeper grind if you're planting immediately.
Do you handle rural, multi-acre properties?
Yes — from one backyard stump to dozens left over from a larger clearing job.

Forestry Mulching

Overgrown land, opened up in one pass.

Brush, saplings, and vines mulched right where they stand — no burn piles, no hauling, minimal ground disturbance. The fastest way to reclaim acreage that's grown up over the years.

The Process

What forestry mulching actually involves

A track-mounted machine with a rotating mulching head grinds standing brush and small-to-mid trees into mulch in a single pass. It stays on-site, breaks down naturally, and helps control erosion.

  1. Walk the property — or review photos/coordinates — to scope what's being cleared.
  2. Free estimate — priced by acreage and density, given upfront.
  3. Mulching — brush and small trees cleared in place, pass by pass.
  4. Walkthrough — we review the finished area together.

FAQ

Forestry mulching, answered

Will this work on steep or uneven ground?
Our equipment is track-mounted and built for rough East Tennessee terrain, including grades a wheeled machine can't handle safely.
Is mulching better than burning or bulldozing?
For brush and understory clearing, yes — faster, keeps topsoil intact, skips burn permits and hauling.
Will stumps be left behind?
Mulching handles brush and smaller trees at ground level; larger stumps can be handled separately with our stump grinding service.
How much land can you clear in a day?
Depends on density and terrain — we'll give a realistic timeline as part of your estimate.

Solaterra LLC is an East Tennessee land services company started with a simple goal: do quality work, be straightforward about price, and leave every job site better than we found it.

Our Story

Built to grow with the work

Solaterra started with stump grinding and is expanding into forestry mulching, with full site prep and land clearing on the horizon. The name was chosen to grow with the business — as new services come online, Solaterra stays the name you already know.

We're based in the Knoxville area, working properties across the East Tennessee valley — a region with a lot of land in transition, from new development to overgrown acreage finally getting reclaimed.

Solaterra is veteran-owned and Christian-owned and operated — values that shape how every job gets handled, from the first phone call to the final walkthrough.

Before Solaterra, Chris served in the military and in law enforcement — the same discipline, reliability, and follow-through from those years carries directly into every job site today.
